Existing insulation consisted of 2 inches of 70 year-old fiberglass.  First, duct work for heat exchanger exhaust from kitchen and 2 baths was installed, all penetrations were air-sealed with foam, then 24 inches of cellulose (R-80) blown in.

Attic access hatches are notorious for heat loss, so this one was weather striped for tightness and 8 layers of light weight polyisocyurate foam (R-56) left over for the walls make for a light and well insulated hatch.
